Normal service return & alternatives
- what we are doing and updates:
During the current Lockdown period, our regular group sessions are closed until the latest restrictions are lifted. However, we are still able to offer support for individuals; remotely, online & in some circumstances, in-person. We're also putting a mix of fun/active/creative ideas on our Facebook pages, along with info, updates & other links. We're also having Zoom / other meetings with staff & volunteers, to plan for our return.
We've been delighted to be back since September, running Centre-based services in Chard (at The Youth Centre) and outdoors at Henhayes in Crewkerne. We will hopefully be back soon with our Youth Zone & Fun Time services at both Chard Youth Centre & at The George Reynolds Centre in Crewkerne. Check facebook for details.
Unfortunately, other locations will have to wait for lighter evenings & more outdoor opportunities, before we can consider returning elsewhere in 2021.
We continue to train our team & develop how we work, to maintain our Covid-Secure status & keep services as safe & enjoyable as possible, in the circumstances & changing times. Indeed, our rethink has provided some new opportunities to improve our facilities & introduce new (easy sanitise / low-touch / socially distant) equipment & fun with Hover Boards, a Hover-Kart, Air Hockey, Basketball & loads more great new stuff.
In an often rapidly-changing world, we're now providing service updates and news on our Facebook pages only (so apologies if this website lags behind & is slightly out of date). Our Facebook pages can be found at:
* The pace of change means that, although we have a comprehensive set of Covid-Secure Risk Assessments & measures, we are not posting these online, as they are subject to continual review & updating, as restrictions, policy & the law changes. We are happy to provide the latest versions of these or discuss any queries you may have - simply contact us with your details & query & we'll get back in touch.
The continued partnership & support of our key funders & contract holders (Chard Area Youth Committee*, Crewkerne Town Council & South Somerset District Council) are massively appreciated!
*who, in turn, receive support from Chard Town Council & SSDC
Keep staying safe & hopefully see you soon!
Active Learning & Skills is a not-for-profit organisation incorporated in 2008, currently delivering services for teenagers and children in South Somerset.
During school holidays, we usually run bonus 'Fun-Time-Day-Time' activity days and also free 'Play Days' with & for South Somerset District Council - sadly these have had to be been cancelled for Summer 2020.
Please watch our pre-Covid video, made with the children and young people of ALS.
